From our previous post you’ll remember that our theme from our Gourmet Club was Aphrodisiac. I decided to turbo charge on the aphrodisiac content with salt block seared Thai Scallops. Easy and simple and what better way to use the salt block that was gifted to me so many years ago?
From Aphrodite’s not so humble beginnings; she made her earthly debut arriving on a scallop shell, scallops since then have enjoyed their status from simple mollusk, to super charged enough for the goddess of love. Pink Himalayan Sea Salt is also a natural and potent aphrodisiac.
Everything from the Thai Basil, whose scent is said to stimulate sex drive, to Ginger whose reputation is long known to be a potent stimulant.
So, if you’re looking to spice up your taste buds or your sex life….Try these super-easy-sexy-pink-salt-seared-thai-ginger-scallops!
Seared Thai Scallops
Serves:
4 for Main / 8 for Appetizer
Ingredients
16 Large Fresh Sea Scallops ~ 1 1/2 lbs
Salt Block
Pepper
Dipping Sauce:
1/4 Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 Thai Fish Sauce
1/4 Tsp Grated Ginger
1 Tsp Thai Basil
1 Small Jalapeño (optional)
Instructions
Place the salt block over low heat on a gas grill or stovetop for 15 minutes. Turn the heat to medium and heat for 15 more minutes. Raise the heat to medium-high and heat for about 20 more minutes.
While block is heating up; pat dry scallops, remove tendon if there is one and pepper them and whisk ingredients together for the dipping sauce and set aside.
Block is ready when you can only hold your hand over block for a few seconds and when a drop of water skits over the surface for just a couple of seconds before evaporating.
Lightly brush block surface with olive oil and place scallops on the hot block and sear until browned about 3 minutes per side. Work in batches, so as not to crowd the scallops.
Garnish plate with matchstick sliced fresh radishes & Thai Basil and spoon sauce over scallops!
Notes if not using salt block:
Heat cast iron to the same heat intensity, only difference is that you salt and pepper scallops before cooking them.
