Last night we feted a dear friend’s birthday and had drinks at a neighborhood cocktail bar. If it’s on the menu, I like to order a cocktail with egg whites. I always find them yummy and not sweet. Had a quick chat with the bartender, thank you Evan for your patience!! and decided to try and make one at home.
And here you have a Lemongrass & Lime Sour! At first I was concerned about using non-pasturized egg whites, but apparently while there is a risk of salmonella, the bacteria does not readily live in the egg whites. I cobbled a couple of recipes together to come up with this refreshing treat!
Lemongrass Lime Sour
Makes 1 cocktail
You'll need a cocktail shaker
Ingredients
2 oz Tito’s vodka
*1/2 oz lemongrass syrup
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1 egg white
1 dash orange bitters
*Lemongrass syrup – 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, 3 chopped up lemongrass stalks. Simmer 10 min and strain.
Instructions
Combine all ingredients into shaker without ice. Shake for 30sec to froth up the egg whites. Add ice, shake again. Double strain into a glass a couple of dashes of the orange bitters and zests as a garnish and Enjoy!!!
Notes
Did you know that the addition of the bitters is more for the aroma than the taste? It takes away that eggy smell when you dive into your cocktail for that first sip.
