About
We’ve been friends for a long time, the kind of friends you make when you’re both pregnant with your first kid, more follow, and you live close to each other in LA. Proximity and familiarity become a potent combination when you’re getting the hang of the whole motherhood thing. Cut to 17 years later; the kids are still close, and so are we. Friendship inspired a volunteer partnership, which blossomed into a working relationship.
We began producing short form content for the New York Times – T Magazine. Then we decided we wanted to sink our teeth into something bigger. A friend recommended the book, High on the Hog, a history of African Americans told through the lens of food, which we’re currently developing as a documentary series that will revolutionize the way we all think about American history and cuisine.
We’ve always loved food and creating meals that bring families and friends together. We’ve been in a cooking club with a group of women for over 12 years, where we’ve explored and cooked meals and cocktails based on regional cuisines, and the recipes of celebrated chefs. Currently, we’re inspired to do something a bit more interactive and engaging, where we can bring all of these shared passions for filmmaking, food, togetherness, and social justice into one place, where we can share our journey, and hopefully help inspire yours. That’s what Hey Sistah is all about.
